Changes to our Musculoskeletal (MSK) service provision

Posted on:

We want to let you know about some upcoming changes to our musculoskeletal (MSK) service at GPS Healthcare.

What’s changing?

From 14th October 2025, we will no longer be funded to provide additional appointments with our specialist MSK practitioner. This means:

  • Any existing appointments with the MSK practitioner will go ahead as planned up to 14th October.
  • After this date, you will no longer be able to book new appointments with the MSK practitioner.
  • If you require intervention from a specialist MSK practitioner, your GP will refer you to external services instead of being seen at the surgery.

What this means for you

  • If you are waiting for a joint injection: you will still be seen by our MSK lead GP. Please be aware that waiting times may be longer than before, as there will be fewer appointments available.
  • For all other MSK concerns: your GP will continue to assess, treat, and refer you to hospital services when needed, as part of your usual care.
  • Joint injections will continue at GPS, but will be arranged following review by our MSK lead GP to ensure the treatment is right for you.

Our commitment
We remain committed to supporting patients with MSK conditions and will continue to provide GP-led care, joint injections, and referrals to specialist hospital services when required.

We understand these changes may be disappointing and apologise for any inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding as we adapt to these changes in NHS funding.
